In Montessori, we use many different materials to teach the child how to add and subtract. One of these beautifully designed Montessori Math materials is The Addition Strip Board, and Subtraction Strip Board. There are various activities involving the boards:
The directress teaches the child how to make bonds of ten on the Addition Strip Board. She shows the child different ways of making the number 10 by using the strips. This is a wonderful activity that gives the child further practice in addition, and further practice with bonds of ten.
The directress teaches the child how to do subtraction, using the Montessori Subtraction Strip Board. The directress begins by showing the child how to make bonds of nine on the board. Once the bonds of nine have been built correctly, she introduces the series sum card to the child and shows him how to find the answers on the card, using the subtraction strip board.
